Good morning. I hope that you enjoyed the first half of the autumn term.
This is the second part in an occasional series of stimulus questions designed to help students contemplate some of the more abstract ideas connected to studying English. As I said previously, my aim is not to anticipate the questions that an interviewer at Oxbridge - or elsewhere - might ask, but to prompt applicants to exercise their intellects in a particular way.
Does every text belong to a genre?
To what extent do we judge the behaviour of fictional characters differently from their counterparts in real life?
What makes a text worth reading?
I hope that these prove useful. You can find my further thoughts on how to approach an Oxbridge interview here -
